The Skinny on Holly

Because sitting on my couch and wishing the pounds away didn't work

Week 1 Weigh In March 9, 2010

Success on Week 1!
Down 4.2 lbs

I think it would have probably been about 3 lbs more if I didn’t go to a dinner party the night before and have homemade manicotti (how can one turn that down?) and some monkey balls (aka monkey bread).

I am excited and trying to celebrate the small successes but I keep looking at the big picture. I don’t think it will actually sink in that this weight loss is a result of my own doing until I lose more weight. I keep thinking that maybe I was wearing something heavy on my initial weigh in, I was getting my period and that can account for a few pounds, etc.

But I am happy that I’ve lost some weight. Only 45.8 more lbs to go!

After our WW meeting, we hit Big Y and did some shopping!

Here are some of my great finds for snackies so far:

  • Quaker Crunchy Corn Bran cereal: 1 point for ¾ cup (and it’s really good dry)
  • Lipton White Tea To Go – 0 points
  • Grapefruit or Peach flavored Polar Seltzer – 0 points (who knew I would like seltzer. I do miss Dr. Pepper, but this will do for now)
  • Special K Bar (Chocolatey Pretzel) – 2 points and so worth it!
  • Pop Secret 94% Fat Free microwave popcorn (with butter) – 2 points for ½ bag
  • Kashi TLC Baked Apple Spice bars – 2 points
  • Chocolate Vitamuffins (or Vitatops) – 1 point (and perfect with a small glass of skim milk

I’m trying to be more prepared. It’s so easy to run out and grab something when you don’t have the right foods available.

At work, I will always have a frozen dinner (WW or Lean Cuisine) in the freezer and some emergency snacks in my drawer to prevent me from craving something from the dreaded snack machine that sits just a few steps from my office!

On the physical fitness note, it will be some time before I’m doing the Wii Fit or even the elliptical. The only thing I can probably do for a little while is biking. I’m not heartbroken over this because secretly, I did want to try to do a triathlon in the next 12 months.

If only I had a bike! 😉

Day 6 of 53 April 8, 2008

Went over my points on Day 6. Dammit.

But I did go to WW for the first time since the first week of January. And believe it or not, I have only gained .7 lbs since then.

I wasn’t going to post my actual weight on here but I’m now throwing caution to the wind. If I’m embarrassed about my weight then I better damn change it.

Here’s the weight info:

  • When I met Lois, I weighed around 135 lbs. At 5’7”, that was fairly lean.
  • After law school and life, I weighed in at my very first WW meeting back in May 2007 at 205 lbs.
  • That is a gain of 70 lbs people!!!!
  • Poor Lois. When I met her, I was all cute and skinny. Then I pulled the whole “bait and switch” thing.
  • My goal weight for WW is 155. I don’t think I will ever be 135 again.
  • As of yesterday, I am 187.2 lbs.
  • I have gained 5 lbs since my prior WW loss, but I’m still down about 18 lbs from where I started.
  • My 10% goal right now is to lose 18 lbs-19 lbs. This fits in well with my “lose 20 lbs in 8 weeks” goal. Again, I know it’s lofty, but since I have lost all of January, February and March, I need to kick it up into full gear now.
  • Losing 10% gets me into the 160s. That is a great start.

Even with looking at all these numbers, I am keeping the “5 lbs at a time” mantra in my head so I don’t get too overwhelmed.

So, I did go over my points, but I am very glad I went to the WW meeting and I am tracking. I was down to 6 points when I got home for dinner.

Lois made pulled pork and mashed potatoes and our friend Suz was baking cupcakes in our kitchen. Ugh. I rationalized having some of everything because it was a weigh-in day and I’d already been weighed in! LOL!!!

Exercise:

Nothing on Day 6 but I will be reporting more progress in tomorrow’s post.

Plus, I am seriously considering signing up for the “moonlight” run 5k on June 6th. I might wait a few more weeks before I waste my $13 entry fee, but I really think this might be a good motivation for me.

Find of the day: WW Peanut Butter Bliss mini bars = 1 pt. Yummy!

10% baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! September 6, 2007

I don’t know how, but I did it. And it only took me 14 weeks of WW (16 weeks total, I think).

My loss for the week was 3.6 lbs! Holy crap!

In all fairness, at last week’s weigh in it was my most bloated, PMS-ey day of the month, which is probably 3 lbs right there.

So, now I need to think of my goal weight. I’m 5’7″ and the booklet shows my ideal weight as between 128-160. Well, I have not been 128 since freshman year of college. I was probably 137 pre-law school, but I am now 185 lbs and I can’t even imagine being under 150 at this point.

I think I’m going to shoot for 155. It’s 30 more lbs. Totally managable, right?

It just seems like such a big amount to lose.

For now, I’m going to enjoy the 20 lbs down and not think about how much is left on my journey!

BTW – ANOTHER GREAT FIND!

I am in LOVE with the Fiber One bars. The oat and chocolate ones are my new little treat! Yummy!

my kick ass sandwich July 12, 2007

Filed under: great finds — holly @ 4:54 pm

I just had a kick ass sandwich that my incredible wife made me for work today.

Weight watchers bread (2 slices), Sante Fe sliced turkey (it’s a little spicier than sausalito), muenster cheese ( 1 slice), my non-fat sour cream and fresh salsa mixture, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce and tomato.

I have to figure out how many points it is, but with my side of sliced cucumbers, I think I’m doing pretty well.

I also just turned down the bag of Ruffles in the break room. I love Ruffles. But cucumbers are better, dammit.

mexican food July 3, 2007

I am a mexican food FANATIC.

Lately, I’ve been working on finding ways to have my mexican.

Here’s the scoop…

I get the HUGE thing of fresh salsa at Costco and put it on as much as possible. (Pretty much zero points!)

I discovered that 90% lean ground beef is around the same as the same amount of ground turkey.

Lois bought (by mistake actually), these small Low Carb flour tortillas and they are 1 point each and in my opinion, much better than the whole wheat tortillas. (Although, you can get a much bigger whole wheat tortilla for 1 point each).

AND, my wife brought me home some wonderful, slightly overripe avocados this week. I am in hog heaven.

Here’s my meal:

2 low-carb flour tortillas = 2 points

lean ground beef = 4 points

small amount of shredded cheddar cheese (use 50% low fat when it’s in the house) = 1 point

non-fat sour cream = 0 points (This is usually much better tasting when mixed with salsa)

mashed up small avocado mixed with fresh salsa = 2 points

onions, tomatoes and lettuce = 0 points

Total: 9 points!

Even if I am off in my points tally, it’s not more than 10 or 11 total.

This is what I had for dinner last night. And after a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich for dessert, I still had 4 points left.

Tonight is our “trailer trash” fireworks party and tomorrow is a BBQ. This will be tough, but I will show up with my turkey sausage and my veggies, ready to grill!

If I’m really on top of things and get out of work early tonight, I might make some kabobs!! Yummy!

Hope everyone has a fun, happy and safe 4th of July!

Hope all my WW buddies behave!

a decent day June 26, 2007

I start off every day saying I am going to have a “good day.”

This weekend, with all of our events, I think I knew I wouldn’t be “great” but I was “okay.”

Saturday night at the club, I decided to forego my usual fried calamari and fettucini. Instead, I got an appetizer that consisted of 2 oysters, 2 clams and some crab legs. Then, I had the halibut for dinner and no, it was not stuffed.

Yesterday was a “decent” day. I did, however, have 2 dinners.

Fiber One (Honey Clusters) cereal = 3

WW granola bar = 2

WW raspberry yogurt = 1

spinach salad = 5

Large iced coffee with skim and splenda = 1

WW TV dinner – Chicken Marsala = 4

Grilled zucchini and corn = 1

Stuffed sole = 7

Total: 24 points (my Target = 25)

– – – –

My current goals:

A. Drink More Water

B. Activity

I know it won’t burn a lot of calories, but I’m going to hit the lake in the kayak tonight. I feel like I have a lot going on in my head right now and being down isn’t going to help me. Maybe some time on the water will help me out a little.

My newest finds

Kiashi Go Lean Crunch – Honey Almond Flax

It seems to be a lot of points (4 or 5) but it’s very yummy. It tasts like Honey Smacks. Remember those?

Oreo Thin Crisps – 100 Calorie packs

These are good. I really want to try these other 100 calorie snack packs: Lorna Doone, Planters peanut butter cookie crisps, Ritz snack mix, Cheese Nip crisps and I REALLY want to try the Nutter Butter Granola Bars.

new treat May 23, 2007

Filed under: great finds — holly @ 2:29 am

My wonderful wife brought home a little treat for me tonight.

Weight Watchers English Toffee Crunch ice cream bars (only 2 points!)

Yummy.

I’ve been doing ok with the points, but have not done anything “activity” this week! I need to work on that!
